    Configuring CloudFront Distribution and Private content support of your bucket using CloudBuddy Personal

  • The latest version of CloudBuddy Personal supports private content feature offered by Amazon S3 (link) which facilitates the user to enable private share of a bucket and create a private URL.

  • Enabling CloudFront Distribution for a bucket

  • Access the 'CloudFront Console' which is provided as a plug-in and present in the right extreme of tool bar.
  •   
  • Creating & Enabling CloudFront

  • 1. The below contents will be displayed for a bucket for which distribution is not created.
  •   
  • 2. The user will click the 'Click here' link to create a distribution for the selected bucket which is shown in the below provided image.
  •   
  • 3. User will be enabled to add ‘CName’ for a distribution created. The user can also provide the following:
    • Short Description for CName (comments)
    • Enable Distribution
    • Enable Logging which need to be mapped to a destination bucket and the prefix associated with it
    • Enable HTTPS support
    • Set Default Root Object

  • 4. User will also be allowed to modify the S3 account and the associated buckets to modify the distribution and CloudFront details.
  •   
  • Enabling Private Content

  • The Private content can be enabled by clicking on 'Private Content' tab and selecting 'Enable Private Content' check box. On clicking origin access identity will be added which results in generation of Canonical user id and identify comment. User will be allowed to modify the identity comment
  • Two types of URL's shall be generated using the private content, namely:
  • Basic URL – This doesn't demand for trusted signer details
  • Signed URL – This demands a trusted signer attached to the distribution. To enable signed URL either the user should add trusted signer(s) or check box titled 'Add myself as a trusted signer' must be selected. On enabling trusted signer, user will not be allowed to generate basic URL.

  • Generating URL

  • 1. Select the object(s) for which a distribution URL needs to be generated.
  •   
  • 2. Select the 'Private URL' in the URL type provided in the below screen.
  •   
  • 3. On clicking next, select the 'Signed URL'.
  • The user should provide 'Key Pair ID' and 'Private Key' to successfully generate a signed URL.
  •   
  • 4. User is allowed to opt for 2 policies namely:
  • Canned Policy – Helps the users to share only a selected object
  • Custom Policy – Helps the user to share more than one object which needs to be specified in the address range of the policy details
  • User will be able to add / view / modify policy details.
  •   
  • 5. User can specify the start date from which the URL will be valid and also the IP range.
  •   
  • 6. On successful generation of URL, it can be copied to clip board and shared.
