    Introduction to WebDAV

  • WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) is set of extensions to HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol). WebDAV protocol allows users/enterprise to read, write, move files collaboratively on the remote web server.
    • The major features of WebDAV are:

    • Locking (prevent overwrites)
    • Properties (information about author, created, modified etc)
    • Namespace management (ability to copy and move contents in server)
  • CloudBuddy WebDAV

  • CloudBuddy WebDAV is an extension to CloudBuddy Personal which will allow the users, mapped to a work group server, to upload/download files to/from S3. The current version of CloudBuddy WebDAV can be installed in Windows 2003 server and the privileges of users can be managed using WebDAV Manager. CloudBuddy WebDAV also allows users to mount CloudBuddy Personal as a web folder.
  • Prerequisites

    • CloudBuddy Personal Version 2.0.3 or higher in the work group server
    • Web folder update
    • 1.WebDAV Manager plug-in
  • Steps to use CloudBuddy WebDAV

  • 1.Start CloudBuddy WebDAV Server
    1.   1. CloudBuddy WebDAV Server comes as part of the installer which will run in the server machine
    2.   2. To Start/Stop Server go to Bucket Explorer -> WebDAV Manager
    3.   3. Administrator must enter a valid port number of server, to respond to the requests from users
    4.   4. On successful CloudBuddy WebDAV Server start, an URL will get generated and displayed on the interface to mount as a web folder.        Please make note of the URL.

  • Step 2: Add and manage user privileges using WebDAV Manager
    1. 1. WebDAV Manager facilitates administrator to create Work Group User.
    3. 2. WebDAV Manager helps in managing the privileges (read / write / delete) of work group user at Bucket level only.
    5. 3. 1.It also enables the administrator to modify the privileges of work group users
  • 3. Mounting URL
    1.   1. Open windows explorer
    2.   2. Add a Network Place using "My Network places" utility, by providing the URL generated by the CloudBuddy WebDAV Server
    4.   3. On exploring the network that got added, based on privileges provided, users will be displayed with buckets
